Istanbul Kısa Film Festivali Başlıyor!

İslam Konferansı Diyalog ve İşbirliği Gençlik Forumu (İKGF-Dİ) tarafından düzenlenen “Küresel Çözümler İçin Gençliğin Yaratıcılığı” temalı Y-Istanbul kısa film yarışmasına katılan gençler İslam Coğrafyasında yaşanan sorunlara kendilerince buldukları çözümleri kısa filmlerle anlattı. Finale kalan 14 eser III. Boğaziçi Film Festivali kapsamında 20-26 Kasım 2015 tarihinde seçili sinema salonlarında ücretsiz olarak sinemaseverlerle buluşuyor.

Yarışmaya katılacak gençlerden “mülteciler”, “gençliğin katılımı”, “zoraki aşırılık ve terörizm”, “küreselleşme ve etik güçlükler” gibi konular başta olmak üzere toplumdaki sorunlar ve bu sorunlara yönelik gençliğin bakış açısını yansıtan kısa ve yaratıcı filmler hazırlamaları istendi. Yarışmaya İran’dan İsveç’e, Hindistan’dan Brezilya’ya, Filistin’den Çin Halk Cumhuriyeti’ne kadar toplam 57 ülkeden başvuru yapıldı. Festival boyunca 11 ülkeden 14 film sinemaseverlerle buluşacak.

Y- İstanbul Kısa Film Festivali’nin ödülleri ise sahiplerini . Uluslararası Boğaziçi Film Festivali’nin 27 Kasım Cuma gecesi Cemal Reşit Rey Konser Salonu’nda gerçekleştirilecek kapanış töreninde bulacak. Fimleri Adrian Tofei, Dzemal Latic, Franzi Zajc, Musa Akgül ve Sevinj Iskandarova’dan oluşan 5 kişilik bir jüri ekibi değerlendiriyor.

57 ülkenin üye olduğu İslam İşbirliği Teşkilatı’nın (İİT) gençlik ayağı olan İslam Konferansı Diyalog ve İşbirliği Gençlik Forumu (İKGF-Dİ) İstanbul merkezli uluslararası bir kuruluştur ve İİT ülkelerinin gençlik kuruluşlarını ve konseylerini temsil etmektedir.

ICYF and Istanbul Media Academy signs Y-Istanbul Youth Festival Protocol

On the sidelines of the 2nd Coordination Meeting of the “Istanbul – OIC Youth Capital 2015/16” International Programme held today at the ICYF Headquarters, ICYF and Istanbul Media Academy signed the Protocol of Cooperation on joint organization of the “Y-Istanbul OIC Youth Capital Film Awards” activity in the framework of the 3rd International Bosphorus Film Festival.

According to the signed document, the parties have agreed to hold mutual consultations as well as to cooperate towards successful realization of the “Y-Istanbul OIC Youth Capital Film Awards” event. This event is one of the major cultural activities of the “Istanbul – OIC Youth Capital 2015/16” International Programme and being coordinated by ICYF. The call for films has started since September 2015 and will continue until 5 November 2015. The organizers expect to receive short films that reflect from youth perspective the social problems prioritized (but not limited) as “Refugees”, “Youth Participation”, “Globalization and Ethical Challanges” and “ Terrorism and Violent Extremism” under the general theme of the event “Youth Creativity for Global Solutions”.

The awards will be presented to the winners on 27 November 2015 in Istanbul during the Gala Ceremony of the 3rd International Bosphorus Film Festival.

The 1st OIC Young Leader Summit Completed Successfully

OIC Young Leaders Recommendations have received approval by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) 13th Summit of Heads of States completed its work on 15 April in Istanbul. Gençler, Hoşgörü için Denklanşöre Bastı

Genç fotoğrafçıların, 2015-2016 yılı İslam Dünyası Gençlik Başkenti seçilen İstanbul ile ilgili algılarını “hoşgörü” teması çerçevesinde yansıtan fotoğrafları, 16-25 Aralık arasında Taksim Cumhuriyet Sanat Galerisi’nde sergilenecek.
İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kültür Daire Başkanlığı Kültürel Etkinlikler Müdürlüğü ile İslam İşbirliği Teşkilatı’na bağlı İslam Konferansı Diyalog ve İşbirliği Gençlik Forumu (İKGF-Dİ) tarafından “İstanbull İslam Dünyası Gençlik Başkenti” programı kapsamında düzenlenen “Hoşgörünün Fotoğrafı+/Photo for Tolerance+” temalı Uluslararası Gençlik Fotoğraf Yarışması’nın sergisi, 16 Aralık’ta sanatseverlerle buluşacak.

Tarihte pek çok önemli medeniyete başkentlik yapan bir şehir olarak İstanbul vizyonunu yansıtan “Diyalog, Hoşgörü ve Gençlik” temalı uluslararası gençlik fotoğraf yarışmasının sergisinin ödül töreni ise 21 Aralık’ta yapılacak.

Törende, Behiç Günalan, Cengiz Karlıova, Ersin Alok, Musa Akgül, Neslihan Yazıcılar, Sevinj İskenderova ve Ümit Karlı’nın yer aldığı seçici kurulun değerlendirilmesi sonucunda ödüller sahiplerini bulacak. Yarışmada ilk 3’e giren fotoğraf sahiplerine sırasıyla 2500 dolar, 1200 dolar ve 800 dolar ödül verilecek. Ayrıca 1 kişiye de 500 dolarlık OIC Youth Capital mansiyon ödülü takdim edilecek.

“Photo for Tolerance+” yarışması, İstanbul İslam Dünyası Gençlik Başkenti programının aktivitelerinden birisi. İlk kez düzenlenen etkinlik; gençlerin çıkarlarının savunulması, sürdürülebilir kalkınmanın, akademik ve sürekli eğitimin desteklenmesi, yeni neslin ahlaki gelişiminin güçlendirilmesi, kültür ve medeniyetler arasında diyalog kurulması misyonunu taşıyor.

57 üyesi olan İİT ülkelerindeki genç fotoğrafçılar, farklı kültür ve dinler arasında “Barış, saygı, hoşgörü, dayanışma, adalet, evrensellik, merhamet” temaları çerçevesinde İstanbul’un sahip olduğu medeniyetler mirasına ve günümüzde modern İstanbul’un dünyaya verdiği mesaja odaklanan fotoğrafları ile bu yarışmaya katıldı.

Call for Applications: “Shiraz Today” International Photo Festival

Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), an international organization affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), announces the below call for application issued by the Municipality of Shiraz on “Shiraz Today” International Youth Photography Festival to be held within the framework of the programme “Shiraz – OIC Youth Capital 2017”.

“Shiraz Today” contest will be a great platform for young photographers to demonstrate their vision of mutual understanding in Muslim societies, as well as its importance in terms of solidarity, rich history, civilizations and brotherhood to foster the youth of Islamic world. The festival involves an international photography competition, photo tour, a festival, and awards ceremony.

The aim of the “Shiraz Today” International Photo Festival is mutual exchange and respect. Tourism plays a critical role in strengthening the relationships among the nations and developing peace and amities. Shiraz as a metropolis with a religious and historical background has always been one of the top destinations for national and international tourists. On the other hand, travel is acknowledged as an important means and factor to bring about the development of human communities by Quran and our religion. Within the selection of Shiraz as the OIC Youth Capital that mission is to bring Muslim youth together and unify them through enhancing their better understanding on common values and variety of traditions and cultures of Muslim societies.

FESTIVAL THEMES

  1. “Tourism and Pilgrimage”

Photos of national and religious places, spaces and rituals taken in all Muslim lands will increase awareness, attract tourists, support peace and present a kind portrait of Islam in today’s world are judged by the jury members.

  1. “Urban Art”

Shiraz urban spaces such as modern urban buildings, green spaces and people in the lively urban space as well as workplaces are judged by the jury members.

  1. “Kindness is here”

Due to the importance of good manners coming from our religious beliefs  as well as the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) practical way of life that are always being emphasized in Iranian culture and history, all photos relating to the Islamic lifestyle, social codes, culture of citizenship and that which presents proper and good conducts are judged by the jury members. All photos of this part should only be taken by mobile phones.

FESTIVAL POLICY & ELIGIBILITY

  1. This contest is open to youth of all faiths and nationalities between the ages of 18 and 35. Non-professional photographers are particularly encouraged to participate.
  2. Participation in the festival is open to the public and free of charge.
  3. The secretariat of the festival will hold a photography tour in Shiraz city from 1 – 5 May 2017 in the area of Urban Art in which international photographers may participate. The secretariat of the Festival shall provide free accommodation to selected international photographers for 5 nights and give a total of 200 dollars to each photographer as a travel allowance (please also take note that this amount of money will be paid in cash when the photographers arrive in Shiraz city). The selection of international photographers shall be in accordance with their resume and the photographers should send their resume and a copy of their identification documents and passports from 21 – 31 March 2017 to the festival secretariat via this email (shiraz.emrooz.fes@gmail.com). On 2 April 2017, the selected international photographers will receive an email including an invitation letter in order to participate in the photography tour. Other international photographers could also participate in the photography tour at their own expense.
  4. The Urban Art photography tour will be held on a competitive base. All participants including national, international and Shirazi ones must register their specifications and those of their cameras in the Festival Database. Not observing the said regulations will result in the photos not being processed.
  5. All can participate in the Tourism and Pilgrimage part provided that the photos to be sent are no more than 2 years old.
  6. In Kindness is here part, the committee shall judge the photos which are labelled by the following Hashtag #shiraz_emrooz and tag the festival address instagram.com/shiraz.emrooz on Instagram. Need not to say; only photos taken by mobile phone can enter this part of the festival. Being accepted, the original photo file is required to be sent to the secretariat. Participation is open to the public and there is no limit regarding the number of photos sent by one photographer. Those willing to participate in the kindness is here part must have their Instagram pages set as PUBLIC as the photos labelled by the Hashtag in Private pages would only be visible to the page owner; the secretariat must have access to the photos uploaded. If you are reluctant to have a PUBLIC page, we strongly recommend you to create a PUBLIC page on Instagram onto which you upload your festival photos.
  7. As soon as the photographers are registered in the festival, they are required to send their photos to the official website of the festival (festivals.shiraz.ir), no later than 5 May 2017 at 23:59 Tehran Local Time. Otherwise, the photos will not be considered.
  8. Photographers can each send up to 7 photos in each part excluding “Kindness is here”
  9. In part 1 “Pilgrimage and Tourism” and part 2 “Urban Art”, the monochrome and colour photos must be sent as a file with DPI up to 72 pixels in JPG format and RGB colour model. The longest side should be 1500 pixels with a ratio of 2*3 or 1*1. The Photoshop output level of the photos should not be less than 10. The panorama photos are not accepted by the secretariat of the festival.
  10. No photo geometric and structural editing is allowed. Photographer should adhere to the standard and acceptable criteria available for photojournalism and documentary photography. The photos can only be edited up to the extent that the originality of the photo is not altered. The documentary aspect of the photos should not be altered by any techniques. Recoloring, adjusting the contrast, brightness and cropping the photos are allowed if the originality of the photo is not altered. The panel of judges makes the final decision or findings of facts.
  11. The entries are expected not to be submitted in any other national or international contests.
  12. Once selected for the exhibition, the image must be delivered to be printed in the exhibition booklet. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of any prizes, material awards, and award recognition.
  13. The photographers whose photos are selected and printed in the festival booklet are conferred award recognition, granted copyright (excluding the finalist selected works), and given the festival booklet. It is necessary to add that the secretariat of the festival shall bear the complete costs of economy-class ticket and accommodation of international winners of part 1 “Pilgrimage and Tourism” and part 2 “Urban Art” in order to participate in the award ceremony (if the international photographers will be among the first, second and third rank winners).
  14. The selected entries for the exhibition will be put on display from 23-26 May 2017. The festival secretariat reserves itself the right to decide on the number of entries selected to be put on display and printed in the booklet in accordance with the available space. Need not to say that selected entries for “the Kindness is here” part shall be published and put on display in a single, collage-based image in the exhibition.
  15. Several workshops are to be held during the festival.
  16. The juries’ decision is considered final and no appeal application shall be considered. In unexpected and unforeseen cases, the secretariat performs as it deems right.
  17. By the submission of the image, the entrants accept the terms of the festival. They are considered as the sole owner of the photos. Thus the secretariat bears no accountability toward any claim made regarding the ownership and copyright of the delivered work(s). The entrant is accountable for any legal or penal consequences arising from copyright infringement on the part of them.

SELECTION PROCESS

An international jury who will select four winners will judge the entries submitted by these photographersThe jury’s decisions are final and binding in all respects and not subject to appeal.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

The ICYF-DC, Shiraz Municipality and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Islamic Republic of Iran assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to the contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms.

RIGHT TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST

If for any reasons, the contest does not proceed as planned, due to any causes beyond the control of the organizing committee that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the organizing committee reserves the right, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Festival.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS for the OIC YOUTH CAPITAL 2018

The Secretariat of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), an international institution affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in follow up to the Resolution No.: OIC/ICYSM-3/2016/R9-Y  “On the OIC Youth Capital” adopted by the 3rd Session of the Islamic Conference of Youth and Sport Ministers (ICYSM) held in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey, on 5-7 October 2016; and Resolution No.: 8/43-C adopted by the 43rd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan, on 18-19 October 2016,) which respectively state:

To call on the Member States to ensure active participation of respective government and youth representatives in the activities of the (OIC Youth Capital) Programme”;

Approves the annual “OIC Youth Capital” international programme implemented by ICYF; calls upon the Governments and Municipalities of the Member States to actively cooperate with ICYF for achieving overall success of the “OIC Youth Capital” International programme as important tool in strengthening development of and solidarity amongst Muslim youth”,

has the honor to announce the Call for Applications for the OIC Youth Capital 2018 International Programme.

It is important to note that the OIC Youth Capital International Programme aimed at fostering cooperation among the Member States in the field of youth policy as well as enhancing Muslim youth solidarity, fostering inter-cultural diversity and the spirit of unity of youth from the OIC geography was initiated at the ICYF 2nd General Assembly (09-11 October 2014) and successively endorsed by the corresponding Sessions of the OIC CFM and ICYSM. While Istanbul hosted successfully set of activities as the first OIC Youth Capital (2016), Putrajaya (Malaysia), Shiraz (Islamic Republic of Iran) and Fes (Kingdom of Morocco) are running creative activities as the hosts of “OIC Youth Capital” for 2017.

Having this said, the Esteemed Ministries (relevant Government Authorities) responsible for Youth of the OIC Member States are kindly requested to consider the “Requirements and Procedures for Selection of OIC Youth Capital” with a view to submitting suitable candidate city(ies) for the nomination to host OIC Youth Capital for 2018. Shiraz – OIC Youth Capital 2017 Grand Opening Ceremony

On 3-4 February, Shiraz, as a host city, was held openning ceremony of the Shiraz – OIC Youth Capital 2017, an important international programme serving development and unity of youth of the OIC geography. Upcoming events of Shiraz-OIC Youth Capital, along with Putrajaya (Malaysia), presented to distinguished guests and youth Representatives of OIC Member States. The ceremony started with presentation of “Flag Raising Ceremony” and “Key to Shiraz” to youth and concluded with the signing of the roadmap of the Shiraz – OIC Youth Capital between Shiraz Authorities and ICYF. 

The Delegation of the ICYF

The delegation of the ICYF Secretariat representing the OIC Youth Capital Selection Committee visited Shiraz (IRI) – the candidate city for the OIC Youth Capital 2017 on 28-30 August 2016. In the framework of the visit the delegation held working meetings with the representatives of the Fars Province and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Islamic Republic of Iran and examined the facilities of the city for hosting the OIC Youth Capital Programme in 2017. Mr. Seyed Mohammad Ali Afshani, the Governor of the Fars Province of Iran received the delegation on 29 August and reiterated full readiness of the city for hosting such an important international programme serving development and unity of youth of the OIC geography. Mr. Elmaddin Mehdiyev, Director General of Cabinet of ICYF on behalf of the ICYF leadership and Secretariat thanked the Governor for interest to host the programme in Shiraz and conveyed the satisfaction of the delegation with high interest towards the programme and facilities of the city. The visit ended up with signing of the Protocol containing the commitment of the city of Shiraz to host the progamme in 2017 and defining the roles and responsibilities of the parties in case of selection of Shiraz as the OIC Youth Capital 2017.

Shiraz is one of the 4 candidate cities to host the OIC Youth Capital 2017, along with Putrajaya (Malaysia), Bandung (Indonesia) and Fez (Morocco).

 

Istanbul Short Film Awards

The winners of ‘Y-Istanbul’ international short film awards themed ‘Youth Creativity for Global Solutions’, organised by the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation within the framework of the Istanbul 1st OIC Youth Capital programme, have been announced

 

Istanbul hosted the international short film awards as the city was chosen the first ‘OIC Youth Capital’ upon its nomination by the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) – an Istanbul based international organisation representing the youth organisations and youth councils of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States. Y-Istanbul Short Film Awards were presented to its winners at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall during the closing ceremony of the 3rdInternational Bosphorus Film Festival.

The film of Ahmet Bikiç from Turkey, titled ‘Mama’ won the grand prize of Y-Istanbul 1st OIC Youth Capital Film Awards. ‘Believe in Yourself’ by Guzel Usmanova from Tatarstan was awarded with the 2nd place, while the Spanish director Daniel Hernández Torraso won the 3rd place with his movie ‘Why?’. The special prize was given to ‘Beautiful City’ by Soheil Sadeghi from Iran.

 

1000 film submissions from all around the world

The young directors taking part in the Y-İstanbul Film Awards produced short films on the issues of ‘refugees’, ‘youth participation’, ‘forced radicalism and terrorism’, ‘globalisation and ethical challenges’. The Film Awards received applications from 57 countries including Iran, Sweden, India, Brazil, Comoros, People’s Republic of China, France, Spain, Cambodia, Lithuania and Turkey amongst others.

The films were reviewed by a jury of 5 members Adrian Tofei, Dzemal Latic, Franzi Zajc, Musa Akgül and Sevinj Iskandarova, jointly identified by ICYF and International Bosphorus Cinema Association. 12 shortlisted films from 10 different countries were presented to viewers in public screenings at Tarık Zafer Tunaya Cultural Centre as part of the 3rd International Bosphorus Film Festival.

About the Award Winning Films and Directors:

Mama – Ahmet Bikiç – Turkey

This film has been inspired by a drawing on an orphanage ground done by a child who lost his mother in the Middle East. The wars on-going in the Middle East for many years have separated countless families causing children to end up in orphanages. After the war, the children who grew up with fear and hatred keep these memories alive all their lives.

Ahmet Bikiç was born in Mardin in 1980. He worked as a photographer and cameraman for many years. He received cinema education at Mardin City Film House. In 2010, he completed his studies at Istanbul Kültür University, Faculty of Arts and Design, Department of Communication Design as a full scholarship student. He started to work for the R&D Centre of the same university. He acted as a director and cinema photographer in numerous documentaries and short films. He opened solo and group exhibitions. He is currently doing his postgraduate studies in Communication Design Module at Istanbul Kültür University Social Sciences Institute while continuing his documentary and short film works.

Believe in yourself – Guzel Usmanova – Tatarstan

This film describes 4 talented young people: a girl who loves to dance, another one who wants to sing, the one who wants to be a public speaker and a guy who dreams about creating gadgets, works hard on themselves to transform these abilities into a talent.

 

Guzel Usmanova was born in Russia in 1983. Following her graduation from Kazan University she received her MBA degree from the US. She chaired the Selet Foundation.  For the last 5 years she has been engaged in various productions as a director.

Why – Daniel Hernández Torrado – Spain

This sarcastic film stands for peace and against violence. Produced as an expression of gratuity to the innocent victims of terror, the film takes a critical stance towards violation of human rights for the sake of any flag.

Daniel Hernández Torrado was born in Madrid. He has extensive experience in the field and directed numerous short films. He took part in many national and international festivals. He continues to work as a free-lancer cinema photographer.

Beautiful City – Soheil Sadeghi – Iran

The film introduces us the story of a young person who is concerned about his city while keeping his hopes for its development. The film is in Persian language and the cast speaks a local dialect of Mashhad city, the second biggest city of Iran that has been named as 2017 Capital of Islamic Culture. Due to language differences, there were challenges in the translation of local dialect.

Soheil Sadeghi was born in 1989. He took part in numerous projects. He worked on animation and documentary films at the cultural department of Mashhad municipality.
