Three boys and three girls representing different countries will be honored with the Medal of Youth Excellence during the closing ceremony of Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019.

The forum was part of the events of Doha – The capital of Islamic Youth 2019.

DOHA: The Ministry of Culture and Sports has announced the names of the outstanding participants in the Doha Muslim Youth Forum, which was held by the Ministry among the activities of ‘Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019’ from July 7 to 11, 2019.

The distinguished names include three boys and three girls. The boys’ names include Ahmed Al Mahanadi from Qatar, Banjkeed Asambada from Indonesia and Aedi Ahmed from Cameroon.

The girls’ names include Bouchra Massoudi from Algeria, Khadija Ajnoui from Morocco and Asma Salem Al Fawri from Oman.

The organizing committee chose the names of outstanding participants based on objective criteria, foremost of which is time commitment, collaboration with colleagues, active participation, and innovation.

Dr Issa Al-Hurr, Head of the Technical Committee for the activities of ‘Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019’ said that the selection of 6 youth, among them 3 boys and 3 girls, is a great incentive for these young people. They will be honored in the closing ceremony of ‘Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019’.

“This selection reflects that the events have achieved one of the important criteria, which is to achieve excellence that is based on behaviors, values, customs and principles,” he said.

Dr Al Hurr said that the significance of naming these outstanding young people means that the “Youth is the Power of the Nation”, and that the events of ‘Doha, The Capital of the Islamic Youth 2019’ has been able to bring this motto to the ground and that it is not just a slogan but a realistic slogan.

In his presentation, innovator Mohammed Al Jufairi, during the workshop which deals with ‘impact of social media sites on youth cultural practices’, said that the attendees interacted with the workshop which means that they are representing elites of their societies.

Al Jufairi pointed out that through the workshop that he presented, he received a great response from the participants on the themes presented in the workshop and the participants took full interest in many issues related to the great impact of the social networking sites on different groups in the Arab and Islamic societies.

And about what he noticed from the evaluation of youth social media sites during this workshop, Al-Jufairi said that the workshop highlighted the positives and negatives of social media through discussion with the participants.

“The youth expressed their concerns, ideas and opinions on some of the cultural behaviors carried by these sites, including the lack of Arabic content on social media sites, in addition to differences in dialects among some users.”

“All this reflects the depth of the discussions that took place in the workshop, which highlighted the level of awareness among young people,” he noted.

Walaa Yousif, a member of the jury at the Doha Muslim Youth Forum, spoke about the criteria for choosing distinguished students. These were six criteria, such as how to deal with colleagues within the forum, commitment to time, innovation and creativity.

She expressed her pleasure to participate in the Doha Muslim Youth Forum and to be a member of the Evaluation Committee, which was composed of six members.

She evaluated between 70 and 80 participants from the youth who participated in the forum representing the countries of the Islamic world.

“My participation as a jury member added a lot of experience, such as accuracy of observation and depth of focus,” she said.

The announcement of the distinguished names of the Doha Muslim Youth Forum has motivated youth from the Islamic world. The Organizing Committee will honor the outstanding youth at the closing ceremony.

The Doha Forum was held under the motto “The Youth is the Power of Nation” and held in cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Islamic Youth Cooperation Forum of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Doha Muslim Youth Forum echoes voices, concerns of a generation

Doha Muslim Youth Forum echoes voices, concerns of a generation

By Shafeeq Alingal /Staff Reporter

The Doha Muslim Youth Forum turned out to be a venue for youth to contemplate, chalk out action plans to tackle challenges, become cognizant of the current Islamic world and share their experiences.

“The forum brings youth from different countries together and offers them the opportunity to chalk out plans to beat the challenges,” Mohamed Saleha, who represents Lebanon in the forum, told Gulf Times on the sidelines, yesterday.

“In fact, it showcases the cultural diversity of the Muslim world and gives the delegates a new insight about Muslims and their social and cultural identities,” he said.

Saleha, who hails from Mali, is glad to attend the forum for the first time.

He could represent Lebanon after he approached his Lebanese friend.  “I got support from Lebanese authorities and made my entry to the forum,” he said.

The forum, according to delegates here, has helped them dream of a better world where the youth play an important role. The forum witnessed discussions and workshops on good governance and transparency, youth and sustainable development and youth and social media.

“The sessions here have motivated all of us. Being youths, we feel elevated as they are a crucial part of development and welfare,” said Alzahraa Said al-Sawafi from Oman.

She added that the youth in her home country are actively taking up efforts for the overall development of Oman.

“We have a good government which is keen to extend all support to youth,” she said.

Al-Sawafi, a graduate in Environmental Engineering, is presently active in social work in Oman.

“I want the ideas to be implemented in my country after I reach home. The sessions have helped me take new lessons as a social worker,” she said.

Maha al-Ammari, who represented Qatar, says the forum reminded her of her duties as a youngster.

“We have much to do and the forum has come as a wake-up call,” she said adding that she wants to make use of social media for the betterment of the society.

“The potential of the social media can be tapped in order to find apt solutions for some of the issues being faced by the Islamic world,” the graduate from Qatar University said.

Al-Ammari who regularly volunteers for various initiatives has plans to develop social media as an ideal tool to make people aware of civic issues.

She believes campaigns will bring in changes if core issues like environmental challenges are raised through social media.

She added Qatari youth are getting due representation in all sectors.

The forum, according to Mohamed, also discussed tackling measures against the current challenges being faced by the Islamic world.

“Spreading of Islamophobia and extremism need our intervention. It’s high time the youth join hands against all kinds of extremism and violence. The youth are the ones who are obliged to maintain peace,” he said.

Al-Sawafi said only active intervention can beat misconceptions about Islam and the Muslim world.

The delegates underscored the need to stay united, saying it will help the Islamic world become powerful in all sectors.

“Unity can assure you more power. And the forum is heralding unity and equality,” she said.

The delegates praised Qatar’s hospitality and thanked the organizers for providing such an excellent venue like the Qatar National Convention Centre.

Qatar has been at the forefront of equipping youth with noble values such as integrity and good governance and the Doha Islamic Youth Forum is one such initiative, a Qatari official has stressed.

“Qatar knows the role of the youth and their power. They are the future for any country. Therefore, we are inculcating in them some values of good governance such as integrity and transparency, among other qualities, during this forum. We are aiming to promote these values in the youth so that they can act in accordance with these values in their own countries,” Amal Ahmed al-Kuwari, head of the Control and Development Department at the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, told Gulf Times Sunday.
Al-Kuwari was speaking on the sidelines of the Doha Islamic Youth Forum that got under way at the Qatar National Convention Centre Sunday.
“Qatar is focusing on the youth in a big way. This is not the first time that the country has taken such an initiative for the youth. The Doha Declaration of 2015 was a great step by Qatar to find their voices. It is being followed by several programmes and the present forum is another opportunity for the youth,” al-Kuwari explained.
“The forum is for Islamic youth and it aims to educate the youth on several topics such as good governance, integrity, transparency as well as the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, among others. This will help the participants understand the components of good governance and sustainable development,” she added.
The official stressed that the forum would enable the participants to get clear ideas about good governance as well as avoiding and combating corruption.
“This is one of the main ideas of the forum. We expect the youth to take advantage of the training and workshops during the forum and benefit immensely. It is expected that the participants will deliberate on several topics and come up with some recommendations on how to implement all these values by the end of the forum. We hope they will be instrumental in implementing them in their countries as they are the ambassadors of these values in their respective countries,” al-Kuwari noted.
“Doha is the Capital for Islamic Youth 2019. This forum is not just one meeting for a week or so. It is a year-long programme and there will be many more activities in this regard all through the year. Some of these participants will come back later for other activities,” she added.
